playdough

We use playdough alot around here. It's so easy to make and the little ones can help. I've only tried the recipe from this book, but am searching for the one my mom used which calls for a whole lot more salt. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

This recipe makes a ton of playdough I usually half the recipe.

PLAY DOUGH
mix together in a pot
4 cups flour
2 cups salt
4 tablespoon cream of tartar
4 cups water with food coloring in it
2 tablespoon oil

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until stiff. Let cool and knead.

watercolor

I've started to focus my energy on fine tuning my painting skills. I have stepped away from paint for a long time. It was my focus in college. I started graduate school for art education in NYC and was there on 9/11. I withdrew from school shortly afterward, the commute was just too nerve racking for me. So I put the art aside and tried to make money doing other less interesting things. So fast forward to now. I'm home with a toddler and my whole being is aching to create. Watercolor is an easy one to start and stop in just a little window of time. So I bought this book to help me and I LOVE IT! What a fabulous book. It's like an art class. So many great exercises! This morning I got out my watercolor box from undergrad, sifted through the many dried out tubes of paint and tried out a few lessons.

some recent satisfying projects:

1. a bag that had been left unfinished. All it needed were the handles. I did this with the little one and she was so very happy to be on my lap helping.
2. glue and fabric over a cardboard breadcrumb container. Instant gratification!

It's been awhile since I used this space. Out of all the blogs I've started (and there are many), I keep coming back to this one. So I'm just going to stick with it. So....hello again!
